Our firm handles both the defense and the plaintiff side of commercial litigation, represent companies who are pursuing collection cases from other companies. We represent companies who have been sued for sexual harassment, for discrimination, for several labor law issues.
We also pursue those claims on behalf of aggrieved companies. We have pursued harassment cases for people who have been discriminated against, both from a racial standpoint and from a gender standpoint.
Our business clients are longstanding. Most of these companies we've represented for decades. They are satisfied with our services and with our pricing structures. We attempt to keep our legal services bill within the range that these companies can afford.
Well, we do something a bit different than most firms. We analyze the case from the inner standpoint. I put myself in the place of--if I represented the other side in this case, how would I approach the litigation? And then we attempt to come up with legal theories, legal avenues to combat what we expect their strategy to be.
Every case has a potential financial benefit. Our job is to analyze where that benefit is and then attempt to keep our clients' cost below that benefit. If our client could expect to receive less than what the legal fees may be, then there is no sense in pursuing that litigation.
Lawsuits aren't won in the courtroom. Lawsuits are won in the preparation for the courtroom. A lawyer going to court has to be well aware of the facts, not only the facts that are helpful to his side of the case, but the facts that may be detrimental. It's just as important in a lawsuit to know what not to ask than what to ask.
We probably spend ten times more hours in preparation for a trial than actually handling the trial. There are depositions to be taken, witnesses to be interviewed, documents to be reviewed. All that has to be done before you know how strong your case is and should your case be in a courtroom setting.
It's important in some cases to know when to resolve a case as opposed to when to litigate a case. And if resolving a case is in our clients' best interest, then we have the experience necessary to make those recommendations to our clients.
