What a Client Says About How We Help Them With Their Business Related Problems and Cases:
I've known Jim and Rick 22 or 23 years. I had a customer that had filed bankruptcy. And Jim was representing them in the bankruptcy court. And I was on the Unsecured Creditors Committee. And as I watched Jim interact with the trustee and defend his client, I decided I wanted him on my side.
Over our 22- or 23-year relationship, they have represented me with three major cases, a lot of collection issues. That is us collecting money from our customers as well as corporate governance and advice on trusts and trusteeships and so on.
I usually work with Jim on issues initially. I have free access to him at the drop of a phone call. I have his cell phone. I talk to him if he happens to be out of town. And it's usually not more than an hour or so before I have an answer and a direction.
Most of my interactions begin interacting with Jim who advises and takes a personal interest that would be hard pressed to receive from a family member. He knows the detail and has just been excellent. Once it goes to litigation then largely the baton is handed to Rick. Jim remains involved but Rick becomes frankly as familiar with the details of a case as I am.
Their reputation in the court room matters. As we are interacting with judges and clerks, we are responding on time, with the best content, in the most friendly way and I know with certainty that went a long way in causing our opponent to settle in every case. They knew we were the favorite.
The firm certainly represents my interest. There have been cases where we go through them we are hoping for some type of positive settlement and we've gotten it every time. Having said that, this last time was interesting in the sense that the firm had a significant incentive to keep litigating but having said that, they sat down and did a financial analysis really a balance sheet of what it would cost to continue litigating, what the upside was if we won everything, what the potential downside was and advised not going forward to their detriment and saved probably another year of litigation.
Over the years, every time I had an opportunity to refer somebody to Slater & Zurz, I have done so. That ranges from problems with adoption to DUI's with my employees to personal injury cases and I am not aware of a single one that turned out less than what the person had hoped for.
