Local Law Firm Sponsors Program to Promote Literacy and Celebrate the Writing Talents of Our Youths.
The Akron, Ohio law firm of Slater & Zurz, LLP has just launched an exciting program designed to promote literacy and highlight the creativity of our youth within the greater Akron community. The program is called “Bridging GAPS”.
“Bridging GAPS will be a year-long series of collaborated events with various community agencies that will celebrate the rich and storied history of our African American culture here in Akron” announced Farren Murphy, Director and Founder of the Program.
The first event of this multi-faceted program is the Stand Up Essay Contest with a grand prize to be awarded of $1,000 cash! The essay shall address the following: (1) The historical significance of the election of President Barack Obama and; (2) A detailed organizational plan for youth to contribute to the betterment of their local community.
Essay rules and requirements are as follows: (1) Open to all children currently in grades 7 through 12; (2) Only one entry allowed per child; (3) Essays must not exceed two pages in length, one side per page, single spaced; (4) Essays must use Times New Roman (12) type font; (5) Essays must have one inch margins.
All essays must be emailed as a Word Document attachment to slater@slaterzurz.com or mailed to Slater & Zurz, Attention: Stand Up Essay Contest, One Cascade Plaza, Akron, Ohio 44308.
The deadline for submission of entries is November 30, 2009. The winner will be announced on December 18, 2009. Local schools are welcomes and encouraged to participate!
