I was born in Akron, Ohio on June 30, 1957. I attended college at Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1979. I went on to law school at the University of Akron and received both my Law Degree and my Master's Degree in Taxation in 1982. Therefore, I have been practicing law for almost 30 years and have handled thousands of cases involving the following:

How I Will Serve You:

Like all the attorneys at Slater & Zurz, LLP, I am focused on getting the best results for my clients in the fastest way possible. I get those results by meticulously investigating, researching and preparing your case while aggressively pursuing it. I want to understand every detail and provide my clients with all the information and advice to make decisions that are in their best interest. By taking this approach, I am able to resolve most issues amicably and without the need for a trial. However, if a trial in a court of law is necessary, I bring extensive experience and a respected reputation as a very effective litigator with a proven track record of success.

What Clients Say About Me

The best way to explain how I may help you is to allow my clients to tell you about their experience with me:

"I met Mr. Richard Zurz in 1985. He was personally introduced to me by a friend who knew him from his work at Dan Street Detention Home. Richard then helped me establish paternity for my twin sons, and we have been friends ever since.

Richard Zurz has continued to help me, family members, co-workers, friends and business clients. Anytime someone asks for my opinion about a lawyer, I always refer them to Richard. If for some reason, Richard cannot help you, he will find you someone that can.

Richard has personally helped me with my corporate business law, workers comp claims, divorce, lawsuits, car accidents, equipment failure, power of attorney, wills, real estate questions and much more. Richard has always been available to answer my calls or calls you back within a timely manner. He is very knowledgeable of every question I have had for him in the past twenty-six years. Anytime I feel like I need an attorney, I call Richard first for his point of view before making any decisions.

Richard's name supersedes him in all walks of life. I have recently been taking care of my elderly aunt, and Richard helped me with the power of attorney. During a recent visit with her financial advisor, he noticed that Richard had prepared the power of attorney. He had wonderful things to say about Richard, and said that I was in good hands.

My future and my family's will be handled by Richard Zurz. I have enjoyed working with Richard Zurz as well as other attorneys of Slater & Zurz." - Carla J. Herbert

Why I Practice Law:

I firmly believe that every person, no matter who you are, where you live or how much money you have is entitled to justice in our legal system. The judicial system is often times adversarial and my passion lies with helping all my clients prevail in that system.

My Most Memorable Cases:

Here are two of my most memorable cases:

A worker was assisting in making modifications to an industrial machine. The equipment activated without warning, trapping the worker inside the machine and severing the lower half of his body. After protracted litigation with the machine owner, the manufacturers of the equipment and its component parts, and the contractors who participated in its set-up and installation, a substantial monetary settlement was obtained for the worker.

A dispute as to the ownership of church buildings, real estate and personal property arose when a local congregation withdrew from its affiliation with the mother-church. After a lengthy trial involving numerous witnesses and hundreds of documents, a verdict was rendered in favor of our client. The decision was then successfully defended on appeal, creating a very favorable precedent.
